The Memphis Sound Lab is a design, sales and installation business, designing and installing sound, video and lighting systems in churches and auditoriums in the Mid-south.

Our mission is to help area churches as they move into a new world of technology for worship.

We do not consider ourselves salesmen. We are technicians, engineers, system designers and system integrators. We pride ourselves in being able to deliver the highest quality customer service available by bringing decades of "hands-on" experience and an ever-expanding knowledge of what's new and what will work for you!



Owner/manager Charles Lawing Charles has been in the business of retail sales of musical instruments and sound equipment for over thirty eight years. He has completed over five hundred installation projects in the last twenty five years, and is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in this field.
Charles has served two, two year terms on the board of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He is a member of the National Association of Music Merchants, National Association of Sound Contractors, and has served for six years on an advisory board of Electro-Voice, one of the largest and the oldest manufactures of sound equipment.

Charles played in the praise band at Community Bible Church, Memphis, TN for twenty one years. This experience has given him a leg up on the competition knowing firsthand the needs and problems associated with a working sound system for a church.



Jennifer Lee Jennifer graduated in 1999 with her BA in Music from North Dakota State University, and has been working in the audio industry for the last 10 years. She is a Studio engineer, Music Producer, Live sound engineer / technician, and wiring and installation technician.
Jennifer has had 5 years of teaching experience at Young Avenue Sounds studio, and the STAX music academy, she has Four years of experience as worship sound engineer with Balmoral Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, and has three years experience as design associate for the Memphis Sound Lab.



Charles Lawing started The Memphis Sound Lab as a division of Strings and Things in Memphis Inc. in 1978. Strings and Things in Memphis, Inc. was one of the largest retail music stores in the nation. In 2006 the Sound Lab became its own separate business . In the past thirty-one years, our experience has made The Memphis Sound Lab one of the foremost in design and installation of worship media. We pride ourselves in helping large and small churches. We not only sell and install systems, but do a number of service calls and repairs. Because of our experience, our customers believe in us, and are convinced that we know what we are talking about when it comes to their needs.
